TeenBeat Signs D.C.'s Pocket Rockets
Catherine Lewis reports:
Washington, D.C.'s Pocket Rockets are set to release their debut
album, Love or Perish, on TeenBeat Records in June. The group
formed in 1999 in an alleyway behind D.C.'s 9:30 Club after an
Imperial Teen show, when Lili Schulder (guitar, vocals) overheard
Carmen Clark (bass, vocals) talking about forming a glam-rock band.
The two started writing songs, bringing in drummer Mat Lewis to round
out their sound, becoming a little less 'glam' and a little more
'rock' along the way.
Love or Perish was recorded last year in Athens, Georgia, by
Bill Doss (Olivia Tremor Control, The Sunshine Fix), and sounds like
an odd mix of twee, psych, punk, and new wave all at the same time.
But what else would you expect from a band that is literally putting
the 'teen' back in TeenBeat? Ryan Lewis (co-honcho of Kindercore
Records and drummer Mat's half-brother) guests on a couple of tracks.
