Chickfactor Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Shows, Comp
Catherine Lewis reports:
Perennially precocious indie chronicle Chickfactor is
celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a slew of anniversary shows
on two continents and a 21-track compilation CD with contributions
from Low, Magnetic Fields, Marine Research, Dump (James McNew of Yo
La Tengo), The Pacific Ocean (featuring Versus' Ed Baluyut and
Containe's Connie Lovatt), Aislers Set, and many others. Gail O'Hara
and Slumberland Records principal Pam Berry started
Chickfactor in 1992. When Berry decided to focus her
attention on her singing career (Black Tambourine, Glo-Worm, etc.),
O'Hara continued to run Chickfactor on her own and is
publishing its 15th issue this autumn, with Elisabeth from Solex on
the cover.
The anniversary shows are spread over six nights in London, New York,
and Washington, D.C. in September and October. Future Bible Heroes
(the outfit featuring frontman Chris Ewen plus Stephin Merritt and
Claudia Gonson from Magnetic Fields) and the Would-Be-Goods
(featuring members of the Monochrome Set and Heavenly) are playing in
all three cities, with other notables including Lois Maffeo, The
Pacific Ocean, and an all-girl cover band including Maffeo, Fontaine
Toups (Versus), Phoebe Summersquash (Godrays, Small Factory), and
Kendall Meade (Mascott). Chickfactor co-founder Pam Berry is
also reuniting her Glo-Worm project for the U.S. dates:

Brothers, Would-Be-Goods, Pipas)

site has oodles of archived interviews and crazy polls for hours of
indie-rock reading fun (and I should know, I'm the webmistress).
